Abstract

A new report (https://bit.ly/4epIrCC) by the Center for Learner Equity sheds light on the experiences of high school students with disabilities in both traditional public schools and public charter schools, raising important questions about equity and access. The CLE notes that for the last few decades, the goals of the U.S. education system have focused on preparing students for postsecondary opportunities and building “college and career-ready skills.” It suggests that this focus is reflected in the Individuals with Disabilities Act, which states the “purpose of education is both to meet students’ unique needs and ‘prepare them for further education, employment, and independent living.’”
