This article reviews key elements of evaluation that can inform treatment and emphasizes a comprehensive, team-based strategy. Treatment begins with motivational interviewing and building a foundation of intensive health behavior and lifestyle treatment, followed by pharmacotherapy and metabolic and bariatric surgery, when indicated.
