Abstract

This letter proposes a low-complexity precoding method, called Sensing-Aware Zero Forcing, optimizing sensing performance by providing fully controllable communications performance under two types of imperfect channel state information at transmitter (CSIT) for joint communications and sensing (JCAS) framework. To aid the sensing performance even further, background path suppression is performed between the JCAS transmitter and sensing receiver that does not include any target information. Numerical results show that the proposed method is asymptotically optimal for communications under imperfect CSIT in common scenarios, and outperforms baseline techniques when communications and sensing performance trade-off, sensitivity, complexity and user fairness are considered jointly.
