Abstract
Natural product synthesis is highly demanding but challenging area considering the limitation in the availability of starting materials. The synthesis of such natural products form commercially available cyclohexane-1,3-dione derivatives as inexpensive and versatile building block has stirred undisputable advancements. This review highlights the importance of cyclohexane-1,3-dione derivatives for the construction of bicyclic to hexacyclic natural products having diverse range of biological activities. A pool of 57 representative studies published in the last two decades has been covered with the discussion of the key components of each strategy.
