Abstract

Exosome-Based Nano Drug Delivery System

Macrophage-derived exosomes offer a novel approach to deliver pirfenidone (PFD) for treating silicotic pulmonary fibrosis. In article 2403227, Shuyin Duan, Lin Zhang, and co-workers demonstrate that PFD-loaded exosomes effectively inhibit fibroblast activation and reduce lung fibrosis in a mouse model of silicosis, while potentially mitigating systemic side effects. The cover illustrates lung-originating macrophages secreting exosomes engineered to encapsulate PFD for targeted pulmonary delivery.

(Adv. Healthcare Mater. 4/2025)
