Abstract
In this paper, the leaves of Nepeta cataria L. were extracted by repeated freeze-thaw-ultrasound assisted extraction method and its Nepeta cataria L. leaf extracts are used as a corrosion protection for copper in 0.5 M H2SO4 medium. The results revealed that the Nepeta cataria L. leaf extracts are a mixed adsorption type corrosion inhibitor mainly based on physical adsorption, and the efficiency of the corrosion inhibitor decrease from 91.24 % to 90.05 % when the temperature was varied from 25 °C to 35 °C at an it’s concentration of 800 mg/L, the electrochemical results were qualitatively demonstrated from the morphological analysis of copper leaves. Furthermore, XPS results showed that the active molecules in the leaf extracts of Nepeta cataria L. were adsorbed on copper in a Langmuir monolayer. Quantum chemical calculations and molecular dynamics simulations were carried out for the main components of the Nepeta cataria L. leaf extracts.
