Abstract

Background: The occurrence of individuals exhibiting both male and female phenotypes is a rare phenomenon observed across various insect orders.

New information: This study documents the first case of an intersex individual of Pectocerafortunei Candèze, 1873, from the Korean Peninsula, including behavioural findings. This is the first report of such a phenomenon in the family Elateridae. Two cases of gynandromorphism are also described: one in Dorcustitanuscastanicolor (Motschulsky, 1861) (Lucanidae) and the other in Trypoxylusdichotomusseptentrionalis (Kôno, 1931) (Scarabaeidae). The former is a new record for this subspecies. An updated list of intersex and gynandromorphic beetles is also provided.
