Generally, generating a bipolar high-voltage pulse requires multistage modules and switches, which may lead to complex triggering mechanisms and connection in circuit. In this article, a bipolar high-voltage pulsed power generator (HPPG) is proposed. In the proposed circuit topology, a primary unipolar pulse is generated using magnetic switch (MS) and semiconductor opening switch (SOS) diode. This pulse is subsequently sharpened and converted into a bipolar pulse by the gyromagnetic nonlinear transmission line (GNLTL) and short-circuit transmission line (STL). The performance of the proposed generator is validated by simulations and experiments. The effects of the charging voltage, bias magnetic field of the GNLTL, and the length of the STL on the output waveform are further explored in the experiments.
