Diatom-Inspired Structure

In article number 2400419, Flavia Libonati and co-workers present a new helmet liner concept inspired by the exoskeleton of diatoms. Through finite element analysis, 3D printing, and experimental testing, the authors analyzed the energy absorption capabilities of the liner's constituent structure, showing that it offers impact resistance comparable to that of currently used materials, but greater multifunctionality potential, resulting in a promising candidate for next-generation helmets.
