Abstract

Pericytes Support Angiogenic Sprouting

The image shows a blood vessel (red and green) sprouting between the columns of a microfluidic chip (blue) and invading the hydrogel above. This mechanism of vascularization is known as angiogenesis, which forms the vast majority of our circulatory system. The interplay between vessel formation, stromal cells and pericytes is explored in article number 2408131 by Anja Lena Thiebes and co-workers.
