Abstract
The rapid physiological and psychological changes observed during the adolescent period and the associated need for a continuous adjustment to those changes result in an extraordinary load to be borne by the maturing adolescent under not always optimal circumstances. This article discusses depression in the adolescent and provides guidelines for early diagnosis, therapy and prevention.
