Abstract
The intensity of disease transmission by insect vectors may be influenced by developments in agriculture and forestry. The author illustrates what can happen with special reference to projects in Thailand and Ethiopia which increased the incidence of malaria, and to the introduction of a new variety of coffee in Colombia, as a result of which the incidence of leishmaniasis among plantation workers decreased.
