Abstract

More than a decade ago, Congress enacted legislation to control the cost and utilization of the Medicare program while also monitoring the level of quality care rendered. The purpose of the Peer Review Organization, as Medicare's watchdog agency, is to ensure that a high quality of patient care is given to all Medicare recipients in the most economical setting.
