Abstract

The influence of myomata on fertility is an ongoing subject of debate and conflicting data. Most studies are retrospective and have small population sizes. There are few randomized, controlled trials of myomata and infertility. This manuscript is based on case-controlled in vitro fertilization groups, retrospective review, prospective nonrandomized data, and review articles. The potential risks and benefits of a myomectomy should be considered in making a decision for a patient. In this era of evidence-based medicine, additional randomized, controlled studies of infertility patients and myomata are needed.
