Abstract
Many surgical interventions have been described for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI). This article focuses on the current understanding of the continence mechanism and new developments in the surgical management of SUI. Outcome data support restricting first-line interventions to retropubic urethropexy and the sling procedure.
