Labeling of nucleolar RNA was as rapid as nuclear RNA indicating that the extranucleolar RNA could not be the precursor of the nucleolar RNA. Actinomycin D inhibited nucleolar-RNA synthesis to a much greater degree than the synthesis of extranucleolar RNA.
