Abstract
A sulphated heteropolysaccharide named horatinsulphuric acid has been isolated from a sulphatase-rich gastropod, Charonia lampas. Horatinsulphuric acid, a mixture of analogous polymers, is obtained by the method of trypaflavin precipitation of sulphate esters. Fractionation made by column chromatography using DEAE-Sephadex separates the mixture into several fractions in which the sulphate content varies from 10 to 30%. The composition of the sugar portion consists of fucose, mannose, glucose, galactose, glucosarnine, galactosamine and sialic acid.
