Abstract

Proteins are the true machines of life. Protein enzymes carry out virtually all complex chemical transformations in living organisms, such as nucleic acid synthesis and replication, posttranslational modifications, carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, hormone biosynthesis, proteolysis, and many more.
