Abstract

Children are not passive recipients of knowledge but active creators of their own understandings of their world (Hampshire et al., 2012). The competent child has a right to full participation in research as in other areas of their lives, with full value in the present, not just as a future adult citizen (Quennerstedt, 2013). While research studies with child participants demand additional considerations, there is great potential for notable impacts on the lives and well-being of children.
