Abstract
Effective healthcare communication involves therapeutic communication and intercultural communication, which may be achieved through the practice of cultural humility. A correlational study with 103 health professionals from a hospital network located in the Midwestern United States was completed. The participants completed Foronda's Cultural Humility Scale, the Global Interprofessional Therapeutic Communication Scale Short Form, and the Intercultural Effectiveness Scale. Data analyses indicated moderate positive relationships between cultural humility, therapeutic communication, and intercultural communication, suggesting the role of cultural humility in therapeutic communication and intercultural communication. Cultural humility may promote health professionals' effective healthcare communication with patients from diverse backgrounds. The findings of this study may inform professional development in health professionals.
