Abstract

In 2011, the “Arab Spring” prompted protests in Oman and some of the participants made reference to the earlier revolutionary period, a further demonstration of the importance of recalling recent history. The book also provides a comparative discussion with the “afterlives” of other movements throughout the world, giving it broader scope. “Afterlives of Revolution” is therefore an important contribution which may be an inspiration to younger readers from the region who dream of alternatives to the current visions of state and social order dominated by neo-liberalism. It also provides many useful details both about the period of the struggle itself and the current daily routines of the Dhufari people themselves.
