Er kjærlighet en forutsetning for rettferdighet?

Abstract

According to Martha Nussbaum, contemporary liberalist theories have not taken the moral psychology of a decent society sufficiently into account. All societies need emotional support, this also applies to liberal just societies. Liberal and just institutions that protect human dignity, liberty and tolerance depend on loving support from citizens. This paper discusses Nussbaum’s claim that love is a condition for justice. The first part describes the “aspiring society”, which is the point of departure in Nussbaum’s analysis. The second part is a discussion of what political love is. Part three discusses patriotic love, and the question of whether patriotism is consistent with the political liberal principles she is defending. The last, and concluding part, discusses whether love is sufficient to counteract structural injustice.
