REVIEW Advice on how to light the home is often rooted in scientific knowledge. Doctors, psychologist, biologists and engineers quantify the performance and impact of light to identify technical solutions and curtail potential harm. Scientific discoveries politicise lighting technologies and moralise the choices we make about them when lighting up our homes: this light will make you relax, this will make you feel safe, this is sensitive to bats, and this produces less toxic waste.
