ABSTRACT: The policy concerning the Jewries of Malaga and its territory changed according to the circumstances of the conquest. There were Jews in the towns of Malaga and Velez Malaga, and in some villages scattered over the mountains. A Castilian Jew, the dragoman Israel, collected the taxes that have to be paid by Moslem peasants and Christian settlers. The expulsion of the Jews in 1492.
