Abstract

Background: Ear, nose and throat diseases are frequently encountered in children and adversely affect their abilities to acquire cognitive and social development. They constitute considerable number of consultations to the general practitioners as well as Paediatricians. Few epidemiological studies have been conducted in Paediatric Emergency Departments with focus on otolaryngology care. Patients and Methods: The frequency of ear, nose and throat diseases in children presented to Emergency Department in Ahmed Gasim Paediatric Hospital was studied through a prospective observational analytic hospitalbased study during the period December 2014 to May 2015. Patients of any gender and age from 0−16 years, presented with ear, nose and throat diseases were included. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using the computer program statistical Package for social science (SPSS) version 17.
