Abstract

Abstract:From its inception in 1972, Children's Literature has been involved with conceptualizing literary theories for scholars who study books and films for youth. This essay traces the fifty-year history of the journal's commitment to literary theory through the following stages: 1972-86: appreciation, aesthetics, and awareness; 1986-2000: theorizing children's literature; and 2000-21: theoretical explosions.
