In 29 selected studies, informal Korean caregivers with a stronger sense of filial responsibility and familism had worse mental health. Caregivers with active religious engagements displayed more healthful mental health. Caregiver relationship type and quality were related to mental health. Abstract
ABSTRACT This systematic review aims to provide a comprehensive review of the relationship between cultural values and mental health in informal Korean caregivers in the U.S. and South Korea. This systematic review searched across 5 databases through July 2022 following 2020 PRISMA guidelines. In 29 selected studies, informal Korean caregivers with a stronger sense of filial responsibility and familism had worse mental health. Caregivers with active religious engagements displayed more healthful mental health. Caregiver relationship type and quality were related to mental health.
