The project aims to further inform Counselling Psychologists and other professionals of the specific needs of this client group.Semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine participants. The data was analysed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA).Three master themes emerged from the analysis. This paper focuses on the master theme ‘Survival’, as it is most pertinent to applied psychologists. This theme explores trans people’s experiences of developing coping strategies to manage the difficulties associated with transition and negotiating healthcare. Strategies included developing resilience and assertiveness, building a social support network, and finding the right therapist.Implications for clinical practice are discussed.
