Abstract
The objective was to evaluate the low-density lipoproteins (LDL) and egg yolk as nonpenetrating cryoprotectants in Peruvian horse semen. Four adult males were collected. Prior to transfer to the laboratory, it was prediluted with dilutor. In the laboratory the sample was divided into two parts. The first was added LDL and the second egg yolk. Subsequently, the freezing was carried out with liquid nitrogen vapors. Seminal quality parameters were evaluated: motility, concentration, membrane integrity, membrane functionality (HOST) and sperm morphology. These seminal parameters were compared with ANOVA. The results indicate that the seminal quality in the cryopreserved samples with LDLs are superior (p <0.05) to those cryopreserved with egg yolk. The post-defrosted progressive motility was 48.9% and 27.5%, at 20 minutes of incubation it was 38.2% and 19.3%; for LDL and egg yolk, respectively. The conclusion, the quality of semen cryopreserved with LDL cryoprotectant was superior to that of semen cryopreserved with egg yolk.
