In Bettauers Wochenschrift, Bettauer and his contributors highlighted non-White ways to illuminate, by comparison, the confining nature of the social and cultural mores that structured Austrian women's subjugation. Abstract
Abstract:This article examines how the 1920s Viennese journalist and magazine-publisher Hugo Bettauer, a Christian convert from Judaism, harnessed images of and stories about non-White peoples to the cause of Austrian female liberation. In Bettauers Wochenschrift, Bettauer and his contributors highlighted non-White ways to illuminate, by comparison, the confining nature of the social and cultural mores that structured Austrian women's subjugation.
