Due to its depth and richness in topics, the book is likely to be read by undergraduate as well as postgraduate students within the fields of leisure and gender studies and/or tourism. It is also valuable for practitioners due to its contributions such as chapter 14 ‘Women and Leisure in the Italian Context’ by Emanuela Bologna and Simona Staffieri, which is highly practical due to its methodological approach, providing quantitative facts and figures. Generally speaking, the book provides a balanced mix between applied and conceptual chapters. To sum up, the book ‘Women, leisure and tourism’ is of high quality, thoughtfully assembled and well structured. Fascinatingly as well as highly importantly, leisure is being contextualised as a necessity for well-being, especially for women/femmes, stressing the fact that the female perspective might have diverse, previously overlooked needs. As with every addition to the academic discourse, the reviewed book highlights the urge to dive deeper into women/femmes stories regarding leisure production and consumption and therefore adds a significant contribution to the overall research context.
