Consequently, this essay studies and examines the data on tortures practiced during the Spanish Transition based on Sophie Baby’s and Ignacio Mendiola’s research. It also analyzes the role torture has in a democratic government in conversation with Darius Rejali’s work. Under this premise, the essay examines two films which have been celebrated due to the different topics they show on screen and the different perspectives they represent within Spanish cinema, yet both express a clear representation of state torture.
