Kvinnelige pressefotografer i arbeiderpressen

Abstract

Women photographers in the press have been overlooked in different works on Norwegian photo history. This article shows that although women have been partly invisible, they still made a mark in the newspapers and magazines of the labour movement, and they do deserve to be seen. The article looks into how many women have actually been involved in the occupation, and an outline of the profession’s evolving gender composition is drawn. Three women and their work as press photographers in different periods are presented. The three photographers that serve as examples are Gerda Grepp, who was a correspondent for the newspaper Arbeiderbladet during the Spanish Civil War; Sølve Harm, who worked as a press photographer in Arbeidernes pressekontor (The Labour Press Office) from 1963 to 1981; and Mimsy Møller, who has been employed at Arbeiderbladet/Dagsavisen since 1984. These photographers’ works are presented on the basis of a wide array of source material such as newspaper articles, magazines, letters, photographs and interviews.
