Hytta, bygda og byen: Forhandling om tilhørighet i krisetid

Abstract

In this article, we use the Norwegian government’s prohibition against travelling to one’s holiday homes or cabins ( hytte ) due to the Covid-19 pandemic as the ethnographic entry point to understand patterns of place, belonging and social dif-ferentiation in Norway. We focus on the increased use of holiday homes as «home offices» (remote work sites) during the Covid-19 pandemic and ask whether increased opportunities for disembedding work from designated localities can create new social boundaries. Furthermore, we ask how these relate to conflicts related to class, belonging, and the urban-rural divide. The article is based on two different ethnographic fieldworks in Norwegian hytte districts.
