Abstract
A new right-wing coalition took power in Italy following a general election on 25 September 2022. The coalition is headed by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Despite her background in far-right politics, Meloni’s government is continuing many of the policies implemented by the unity government it replaced, which was led by technocrat Mario Draghi, in part because it faces the same economic constraints that have been imposed by the European Union, the bond markets and inflation.
