Summary: The first years of the botanical explorations of Kurt Dinter in former German South West Africa between 1897 and 1914 are described and matched with new field research. At least three Lithops species are attributed to Dinter as discoverer whereas two additional taxa were likely seen by Dinter for the first time in botanical science. Zusammenfassung: Die ersten Jahre der botanischen Erkundungen von Kurt Dinter im ehemaligen Deutsch-Südwestafrika zwischen 1897 und 1914 werden beschrieben und mit neuer Feldforschung abgeglichen.
