Abstract
The current evidence confirms the presence of only one species of spiral-horned antelopes, Pontoceros ambiguus, in the Tamanian (late Early Pleistocene) faunal complex of Eastern Europe. The re-study of fossil materials revealed that the horn core from the Tsimbal locality (Sennaya) on the Taman Peninsula (Russia), previously identified as Tragelaphus sp., belongs to an antelope of this species. The Russian Journal of Theriology publishes papers on all aspects of mammalian biology: taxonomy, zoogeography, ecology, behavior, morphology, development, physiology, paleontology, and evolution. Studies of extinct as well as extant taxa are included. Reviews are also published; these may be invited by the Editorial Board.
