Abstract

Summary. The dramatic threats to the population at the locus classicus of Micranthocereus polyanthus (EN) is reported and all surviving mature individuals counted. The urgent need for the secure preservation of its habitat at Brejinho das Ametistas, Bahia, Brazil is emphasised.
