Abstract

In vitro anti-diabetic potential of methanolic extract of Helicantheselasticus(Desv.) Danser growing on six different hosts and thereby comparing the host’s influence on this parasitic plant for this efficacy was studied and statistically analysed. The results showed that Hemiparasite collected from Heveabrasiliensis, Citrus maxima, Anacardiumoccidentale and Saracaasoca were found highly effective in this regard. Highest inhibition on α-amylase was shown by H.elasticuscollected from Heveabrasiliensis where as inhibition of α-glucosidase was found to be highest in hemiparasite obtained from Citrus maxima. The host plants selected under study was also found good in reducing the blood glucose level. The study clearly reveals the fact that, anti-diabetic potential of H.elasticus have significantly influenced by the host trees.
