Abstract
Neonatal jaundice, which can affect up to 60% of term and 80% of preterm babies, can have a serious detrimental effect on their health. The effects of microbiota on neonatal bilirubin are poorly understood, which creates a critical knowledge gap about how they affect the neonate's blood bilirubin levels and how the gut delicately balances close contact with the host. Prebiotics and probiotics have a significant impact on the management of hyperbilirubinemia, but their effectiveness is still being debated. To offer a compelling novel therapeutic approach for newborn hyperbilirubinemia, a thorough understanding of the process is required.
