Indicadores de calidad ambiental urbana: Una revisión

Abstract

Urbanization has changed economic and demographic flows and processes within urban areas and so the state of their natural resources. The analysis of these transformations demands environmental phenomena relevant information generation on the geographical unit, concentrated on measurement techniques such as simple and synthetic environmental indicators. The specialized literature suggests that a smaller territorial scale of measurement in these indicators is essential to achieve effectiveness and efficiency criteria in decision-making. This work presents a review of the approach of simple and synthetic environmental indicators as references for the construction of urban environmental quality indicators. The conclusions highlight a limited academic consensus regarding the components of urban environmental quality indicators considering the uniqueness of the dynamics and environmental and economic characteristics of urban regions, nonetheless, it can be constituted as an element to achieve measurements from strong sustainability perspective, which highlights important lines of research to be developed.
