Abstract:The problem of induction is affective as well as epistemic: how ought we to feel about the limits of human cognition? This question is pursued through H. P. Lovecraft's 1927 short story, "The Colour Out of Space." Lovecraft explores the meaning of our epistemic frailty, drawing on George Santayana's Scepticism and Animal Faith.
