There is a lower risk of adverse interactions with other drugs because citalopram is metabolized by several CYP isoenzymes. Abstract
Citalopram is the most selective molecule in the class of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), except its active enantiomer S-citalopram. It belongs to the group of antidepressant and anxiolytic drugs, which is currently the standard in the treatment of depressive disorders and anxiety disorders with panic attacks, especially for the elderly.
