The speed of sound in a porous cotton medium has now been determined. The effect of additional force stresses inside the cotton medium caused by the filtration of the air component from cotton raw materials during the introduction of the working body, has been disclosed. A generalized equation that describes the force stress in a cotton medium when exposed to a variety of shapes of working bodies of cotton machines has been worked out. A method for calculating the damage to seeds and cotton fibers caused by their interactions with the working bodies of processing machines has been proposed. Abstract

Abstract A theoretical regularity of the general behaviour of raw cotton as a porous medium in the technological processes of its mechanical processing has been substantiated for the first time. The speed of sound in a porous cotton medium has now been determined.
