Abstract
The past decade has seen a significant expansion in the accessibility of presidential papers and other historical materials. Amendments to the Freedom of Information Act, the issuance of a new Executive Order on the declassification of documents, the rulings of the Supreme Court on the papers and tape recordings of President Nixon, the passage by Congress of the Presidential Records Act of 1978 and the new developments in presidential libraries are examined to discern their impact on increasing the access to presidential records.
