Abstract

This paper examines the performance characteristics of the Savonius windmill rotor under field conditions. Test data were collected on the speed, torque and power of the rotor at a large number of wind speeds for each of seven values of the rotor overlap ratio. The performance data of the Savonius rotor are also fully discussed and design criteria established.
