Abstract

The first trimester foetus specimen presented here is likely to be the result of a spontaneous abortion, due either to metabolic defects, chromosome abnormalities or simply a failure of the uterus to maintain the placental site. There is a minor amount of surface haemorrhaging present, but this is mostly due to handling the specimen post passage. No diagnosis can be made from this example, but the specimen itself may be submitted for microscopic examination and further studies.
