Abstract
An Ordovician nautiloid ellesmerocerid originally described as Irianoceras antiquum (Plectronoceratidae) Kobayashi 1971 from Irian Jaya and assigned a probable age of post Tremadoc is shown to be a member of the Llanvirn ellesmerocerid genus Bactroceras Holm 1878 (Baltoceratidae). Irianoceras antiquum is placed in synonymy with Bactroceras latisiphonatum Glenister 1952 described from New South Wales, Australia.
