Insight for Building a Successful Academic Journey

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to share insight for launching a successful career in an academic institution. The topics addressed are as follows: strategic planning of a career, developing long- and short-term goals, developing a solid research stream, building mentor–mentee relationship, building grantsmanship, becoming a published author, teaching and student advising, networking and being collegial, and promoting one's work-life balance. The interdisciplinary and collaborative nature of academics is emphasized throughout this paper.
