Indicators for sustainable tourism management: a case study using AHP and DELPHI to evaluate mountainous areas in Greece

Abstract

: Indicators are identified as a modern tool for measuring and establishing the quality of goods such as tourism and leisure in an area. For this reason, that indicator systems have been introduced across Europe and almost all over the world, aiming to present thematic guidelines by assessing the current situation and analysing the distinct characteristics that provide the prospects for sustainable development. The presentation of such a system of tourism sustainability indicators for Greece was the purpose of introducing this study. The adopted system is expected to provide a high level of detail and to present diversity and new dimensions for tourism plans and studies. The data from the present study ultimately highlights the importance of critical factors and the contribution of a system of indicators to a country.
